Last weekend it was crazy here. There was a national independence holiday going on, the Miss Colombia Pageant (which took place in Cartagena) and a weird boat festival called the “Balleneras” festival, which now ties in with the beauty pageant. Anyway, I hung out on deck watching the action with my video cam, and what happened afterward was a crazy little bit by Karen that was totally unrehearsed and unplanned. It’s actually pretty funny, at least I think so, so give it a look…

That’s right, as part of the Andiamo’s quest to rule the world, we’ve opened up an Amazon store! :p

Why you ask? Well, for one thing, I get asked all the time by readers what books they should read to prepare themselves for cruising. I also get asked for my opinion about other boat-related stuff as well. So, as part of the “Shameless Plugs” section’s strategy, I shall seek to render my opinions and advice about books and other products, AND direct you to the best deals for them online, which is almost always Amazon anyway.

One good thing about Andiamo’s engine deciding to take an implosion break was that it got me back to land in time to watch the 2008 election unfold. And what a sight that was indeed! It was the antithesis to the disastrous, horrific and just plain criminal events that unfolded on that fateful Tuesday of November 7th, 2000. The Andiamo's beloved Perkins Diesel, "post-rebuild"

That’s right, previously unbeknownst to me, there is another chapter to what I thought was a long finished saga. Since the apparent success of this engine rebuild between June and August of this year, we’ve completed 7 trips between here and Panama. The engine has run virtually flawlessly save for an annoying minor oil leak that cost me about a quart of oil each trip. Continue reading →

In this section, I’ll venture into the world of recommending books, products, sites, services, boat gear, information and any other stuff that I can only whole-heartedly recommend. I invite you to check out my suggestions and recommendations in this section, which I’ll be updating regularly.

So I FINALLY got the time to put up a clip of Andiamo sailing from San Blas to Cartagena. It’s only about a minute and a half long, but I think it’s a cool step for the site, so check it out! I’ll be putting up more videos of different parts of various antics, sailing and whatnot, as we go along.
