A city gets completely devastated by a hurricane, but the hurricane is not able to crush the spirits of the people living in it and they built a new city for themselves.. A tale like this would make a good book…and it would be based on a true set of events of what happened about forty years ago in a place just south of Mexico. This is the reality the capital of Belize – Belmopan.
Belmopan was constructed to the east of Belize River, 80 km inland from the former capital, the port of Belize City that was destructed by a hurricane in 1961. Like many other people, I too wanted to see the city that was built as a result of a concerted effort of its people. When visiting Belmopan there are many Belmopan hotels to stay at – or, if you like, a bed and breakfast or nearby resort.
Those visiting Belmopan often visit the bi-weekly marketplace, the Parliment building and the Guanacaste Park. Luckily, there are hotels in Belmopan near all of these sites.
For those that are looking for something a bit different from your normal vacation it is possilble to locate a good number of Belmopan hotels. So if you are a couple looking for a bit of romance or a group of students looking to study the rain forest there are hotels in Belmopan ready to meet your needs. For those on a budget there are low-budget hotels or economical bread and breakfast that can meet your needs.
There are no 5 star hotels in the Belmpan area but there are still several places you can stay at with a high level of service. Most hotels offer many of the services that you would find in a hotel in the United States – telephone, television, Internet (at times wireless in your room), and many other services that contribute to a great stay.
Since Belmopan is centrally located consider making a Belmopan hotel a “base of operations” that you can use to visit to rest of the country.
