Oh, I’ll share this alright…

And not because I agree with it. But rather because it exudes the sheer arrogance, stupidity and the extreme levels of the catholic church’s lack of touch with reality. It’s so RIDICULOUSLY over the top, that it took everything I can muster to keep my head from exploding before the end.

This is just another example of the “desperation marketing” that the catholic church is willing to stoop to. What they are willing to do in their futile effort to regain some kind of foothold or respect in the public arena. To which, for many of us, would be so entertaining if their agenda wasn’t so deadly.

So enjoy, and yes, please please share…

No Arguments, No Contest…

The persistent stupidity on behalf of “theologians” along with the legions of believers who give their bullshit degrees any credence whatsoever, never ceases to amaze. How they so blithely try to belittle Dr. Stephen Hawking (or as I call him, the “Biggest Brain In the Universe”), talk about defying science. Al Stefanelli, posted a brilliant post reflecting on this. On his piece, he includes a most concise graphic, which I of course had to share…

The History of the Catholic Church…

Came across this concise, well-conceived clip about the Catholic Church’s longstanding history with pedophilia. Despite claims about this being a “modern” problem for the church, this video shows the far-reaching evidence, back to its beginning. Really well-done…

Wise Not-as-historical (but still relevant) Words of the Day…

"As an African American and an atheist, the recent stir caused by the PA Nonbelievers/American Atheists billboard is both surprising and disheartening. While I expected a negative reaction from religious African Americans, I was disturbed to find dissent from Black people within the Secular Movement.

The quote presented, "Slaves obey your masters," was not taken out of context and is only one of the MANY locations in the Bible that you can observe a pro-slavery message. The image used was not created by American Atheists for this purpose, but was reprinted to illustrate the brutality that the Bible condones -- and the reality of the conditions my ancestors endured. I am deeply saddened that the purpose of our billboard has been labeled as racist or as an "attack" on African Americans or a particular PA community. This vitriol is sorely misplaced, and should be directed at those who peddle Scripture as fact -- or toward the PA House of Representatives that successfully sought to legislate it as such.

Wise historical words of the day…

Frederick Douglass on slavery and christianity:

“I love the pure, peaceable, and impartial Christianity of Christ: I therefore hate the corrupt, slaveholding, women-whipping, cradle-plundering, partial and hypocritical Christianity of the land. Indeed, I can see no reason, but the most deceitful one, for calling the religion of this land Christianity. I look upon it as the climax of all misnomers, the boldest of all frauds, and the grossest of all libels. Never was there a clearer case of 'stealing the livery of the court of heaven to serve the devil in.' I am filled with unutterable loathing when I contemplate the religious pomp and show, together with the horrible inconsistencies, which every where surround me. We have men-stealers for ministers, women-whippers for missionaries, and cradle-plunderers for church members. The man who wields the blood-clotted cowskin during the week fills the pulpit on Sunday, and claims to be a minister of the meek and lowly Jesus. . .

The slave auctioneer’s bell and the church-going bell chime in with each other, and the bitter cries of the heart-broken slave are drowned in the religious shouts of his pious master. Revivals of religion and revivals in the slave-trade go hand in hand together. The slave prison and the church stand near each other. The clanking of fetters and the rattling of chains in the prison, and the pious psalm and solemn prayer in the church, may be heard at the same time. The dealers in the bodies and souls of men erect their stand in the presence of the pulpit, and they mutually help each other. The dealer gives his blood-stained gold to support the pulpit, and the pulpit, in return, covers his infernal business with the garb of Christianity. Here we have religion and robbery the allies of each other—devils dressed in angels’ robes, and hell presenting the semblance of paradise.”

Quote of the Day (believers beware) …

“The notion that a faith in Christ is rewarded with an eternity of bliss, while a dependence upon reason, observation and experience merits everlasting pain, is too absurd for refutation, and can be relieved only by that unhappy mixture of insanity and ignorance called ‘faith’.” -- Robert Ingersol

While we’re on the subject of religion…

For your viewing and listening perusal, may I present you with some classic Marcus Brigstock? He proves that sometimes, common sense can also be hysterically funny. ;)

You call that a compromise??

If Obama could have gotten a solemn vow from the men-in-pointy-hats church to not piddle and rape kids anymore, in exchange for the pass on requiring to give contraception benefits for certain employees, then that probably could have been called a real compromise.

What would Jesus do?

Hey Kids, here comes Piet!

Here's an interesting piece about a foreigner's take on the "Sinterklaas" tradition in Holland. Which sorry to say, is in SERIOUS need of a cultural update to say the least.

As someone who was married to a Dutchie for more than a decade, I came to know the whole holiday and tradition with more immersion than I ever cared for. While I thought the gag gift-giving and funny poems had its share of entertainment value, that's about as far as it went.
