The Stench of Hypocrisy…

In Paul Krugman’s latest NYT Op-Ed (clipped below), he again nails it. He discusses how the GOP purports itself to be vehemently “Anti-government spending”, while at the same time eternally pledging to protect the US defense budget from any cuts whatsoever. If this incontrovertible reality doesn’t prove the GOP’s “prison-bitch” status in regards to its allegiance to the military-industrial complex, which is largely owned and benefited from by the same plutocrats/oligarchs that have looted and ravaged the US economy, then nothing will. 

The fact is that the utter blatant way that the GOP chose to contradict themselves on every turn, fighting Obama’s job bill tooth and nail, while at the same time trying to protect their sacred cow of defense spending only reinforces the notion that priorities are where they have always been. A few years back Representative Barney Frank coined an apt phrase for many of his colleagues: weaponized Keynesians, defined as those who believe “that the government does not create jobs when it funds the building of bridges or important research or retrains workers, but when it builds airplanes that are never going to be used in combat, that is of course economic salvation.” Read on…
