Some sobering statistics…

Charles Blow’s recent NYT op-ed covers the sad realities concerning how the US stacks up to the rest of the industrialized world among OECD member nations when it comes to social justice. He taps into a recent study by the Bertelsmann Stiftung Foundation in Germany.

Their findings are of course, not pretty. As can clearly be seen in the chart below that NYT published along with his piece. But hey, there is a bright side. At least we can take comfort in knowing that we’re at least more socially just than Mexico, Chile, Turkey and Greece.

But give us time. Surely with some faith and perseverance, we’ll top those guys too.

  1. The same top 5 in studies looking at social services, equality, education, poverty, environment, or just about anything connected to quality of life – consistently. However, Sweden’s scores will “drop like a bomb” if they choose to keep voting conservative – who seem to idolize the US and it’s model for creating a successful society. WTF?

    1. Yep, it’s pretty bizarre as to how any country would want to model the current US neo-con/plutocrat system. If anything, it should be a gleaming example on how to wreck what just a decade ago was a shining example of responsible capitalism and government. I highly doubt that Swedes will let their system get wrecked to the extent ours was. We’ll have to wait and see….

  2. Yeah… Mmm… deepfried snickers..mmm

But I think that usa for us frozen northeners is fancy cars, big mansions, beautiful successful people just like it is on tv.. They dont show much of foreclosures or illitirate poor people on prime time tv..
I like the thought of me driving from my malibu beach home in my mustang, being all beautiful with very glossy hair munching on a deepfried snickers without putting on a single gram… 🙂 I think I need to start vote conservative!! 😉
