Since the story broke about Joe Paterno’s heave-ho from Penn State, after 46 years of being the demigod football coach, revered and worshiped as a legend in his own time, there has been screaming and biblical-scale gnashing of teeth. On one side, the self-flagellating is being done by those who are wrought with guilt, shame, despair and pain. No doubt there is justifiable anger and outrage over the horrific, disgusting misdeeds that have been perpetrated on what can be as many as twenty teenage boys over the course of a decade and a half. On the other, there is the anger wrought by the people who feel that their idol has been severely wronged. He was singled out, and railroaded by a board desperately trying to deflect responsibility, and perhaps save their own asses.

Many say that Paterno should at the very least have been allowed to finish out the football season. The board of trustees thought otherwise, determining that the best action was to show the Paterno the door immediately. And probably rightfully so. All I can say, is that while it’s clearly a good thing that there is action, outrage, and hopefully the means to bring swift justice upon Sandusky and anyone else who helped him in his sick pedo-hobby, let’s also be clear about something else.

There should be no less than five thousand TIMES the level of outrage, anger, and calls for justice aimed against none other than that sick, gaily-adorned, criminal enterprise we all know as the catholic church. Yes, Penn State may have swept perhaps a couple dozen cases of pedophilia under the rug over the last two decades or so. However, as those of us who choose to not live in denial know, the catholic crime syndicate has been doing this by the tens of thousands, IF NOT MORE, for as long as there has even been a church. Make no mistake about that. While the news on all this is relatively fairly “recent”, this sordid former secret has to go further back than we can even imagine.

Let’s remember that records about priest pedophilia has only been a matter of public notice for only a few short decades. It’s only logical to assume that the church’s history of sordid misdeeds reaches way back into its glorious early days of looting abroad, pillaging other civilizations, genocides, pogroms, crusades and inquisitions. At the very least.   

I’ll tell you what I’m wondering. How many of these Penn State fans that are raising cain (no pun intended) with Penn State and Joepa, are still card-carrying catholics?? After all, Penn State is near Pittsburgh. Which has long been the home of a large and powerful catholic diocese, I’ll bet that number is pretty damn high. Now, consider that each of these feverishly catholic Penn State fans are probably among the biggest hypocrites yet to walk the planet. Their hypocrisy can only be topped by the hot-headed “pro-Joepa” catholics who were busy flipping over news trucks to channel their outrage over his ouster. Yep, they win the platinum award. 

Really, the fact that Penn State probably knew about all that was going on with Sandusky, and instead chose to first cover it up, speaks volumes. They tried to just make him go away, then ultimately make Joe Paterno take the fall. It again sheds light on what lengths a corrupt institution will go to in order to protect itself from scandal. And no other institution has facilitated scandal and heinous acts that leave mounds of victims worldwide better than the catholic church.

So perspective is sorely needed here. For all that happened in regards to Penn State, Paterno, and what they knew regarding Sandusky’s despicable acts, this much is certain. They amount to nothing more than a DROP IN THE BUCKET compared to the human wreckage that has been perpetuated by the Vatican in its grand desperation to preserve its hallowed institution (and, let’s not forget, keep the money rolling in). 

That can’t be overstated. Ever.
