Fun Stuff

At long last! The clip of the BIG SHOW featuring Andiamo!

Yes, at long last! Sorry it took me so long to get it up on the site. My little Mexico jaunt (post coming up next) was a bit of an interruption. Then, I had a trip right after I got back, so that dragged things on a few more days. But nevermind all that, the wait is over! Click and enjoy, and please let me know what you think!

Phenom Storm Photo!

A few days ago, during a trip, we encountered a MASSIVE storm while anchored in the West Lemons, San Blas. Winds hit 30+ knots, rain was blinding, and lightning ground strikes were everywhere. Leila, one third of a spunky mother/daughters trio that was aboard on this particular trip, grabbed this gem of a shot.

You can see one of the fast-moving low-lying storm rollers coming at us with a vengeance. Meanwhile, in the right foreground, our neighbor in the anchorage, “Lulu” hopes to avoid what would have been its THIRD lightning strike this year. There were several frighteningly spectacular ground strikes all around us during the onslaught. Including one that interrupted Andiamo’s electric ground for a good three seconds and gave the air the smell of burning sulphur. Crazy stuff.

Thanks Leila for sharing this keeper of a pic. 🙂

Another Video! Gennaker Sailing! Que linda!!!

I took this video MONTHS ago, and I’ve been wanting to get it edited and all niced up. I finally got the chance to finish it. This is the kind of sailing I like to do, easy, smooth, and pretty. 🙂 I like to do the other kind of sailing, hard, fast and dirty, but this is just as cool.

Hope you like it!

Spotted Eagle Ray Footage!

Trond, a Norwegian guest who was aboard Andiamo early August 2009, shot this really beautiful footage of a spotted eagle ray swimming along the sandy bottom in Chichime, San Blas. He was gracious enough to share the video with me, which I edited and put into this clip. It’s short, but sweet. Enjoy!

My dinner last night…

uh... I'm gonna need a bigger cutting board....

uh... I'm gonna need a bigger cutting board....

So yesterday, I just finish a three-night trip. The food supply has been totally wiped out, and here I am thinking. What the hell am I gonna eat tonight? I’ve got little more than rice, pasta, and some oreo-like cookies. Hardly my idea of a meal. What to do???

Lo and behold, a couple of Kuna row up to Andiamo and offer me this BEHEMOTH of a lobster. By far, the biggest single lobster I’ve ever had. This big bertha weighed at least 6 pounds. They wanted $15 for it, we settled on $8. This thing was so huge, I didn’t even need a side dish. The tail and the antennas alone would stuff me good.

Get a load of that baby, she sure was yummy. And yeah, I ate the whole thing… 🙂

Panama City’s New Cinta Costera!

Last week, I was walking along the Panama City’s waterfront, where they had just completed the Cinta Costera project. This basically was a massive project where they overhauled Panama’s waterfront from a drab and chaotic two-way street, and a rather run-down marina/yacht club and converted it into a pretty impressive open space and traffic thoroughfare. I took these pics because I was just so impressed at how damn good the waterfront looks now compared to before.

What’s most interesting about this improvement project is the fact that they finished it in less than 18 months! Pretty amazing when you consider that the project includes several bridges and overpasses as well as an extension of several thousand cubic feet of earth to create more shoreline. The fact that something like this can be completed in record time in a place like Panama makes it all the more impressive.

I for one surely plan on spending more time out here when I’m in the city.

Ok, I’m sensing a pattern here…

Ok, so regular readers (the few of you out there) will remember we had a BIG development back in April when one of our onboard guests, Glen proposed to his lovely Holly while sailing with us in San Blas. It was what I called the beginning of some kind of paradigm shift in Andiamo’s rather tumultuous effect on relationships that came in contact with her. (more…)
