The Beautiful Chaos of Havana, Part I

In front of Havana's El Capitolio...

Boarding the plane from Panama City to Havana, I felt an almost kiddie-ish excitement about the trip I was about to take. It was a long time coming. Something that had to finally happen. Finally, all the pieces of the puzzle were together, Something that had always been so elusive was finally becoming real.

For most Americans like me, going to Cuba always seemed a pipe dream. For as long as I can remember, it always seemed to be a strange, forbidden place so far away while yet being so ridiculously close. Particularly since I grew up in Florida. … think I’ll buy me a football team…

The Mighty FC Gildan, before their semi-final match...

A couple of months back, Dino, Andiamo’s fearless Kuna crewman, came and asked me a favor on behalf of his home island’s soccer club. For the first time in a few years, his club’s team qualified for the Kuna Yala soccer championship tournament. (more…)

Edin, and his Arctic beauties.

Edin and Laura, a cool British couple who sailed Andiamo last year, shared some nice pics of some lobster that they cooked up for Edin’s recent birthday. What was particularly nice and flattering about this was that they cooked the lobster “ala Tony” using my personal recipe that I do often on Andiamo. (more…)

Mom… inspiration source??

Mom, back in her prime. 🙂

See, before I posted that quote, I would change it from time to time, with various one-line musings and thoughts. Though they were all different from each other, they yet always gave a different variation or angle on the whole philosophy of “going”, reaching a destiny.

However, since I updated it to this one, it hasn’t changed. And I don’t see it changing anytime soon. Why? Since posting the story surrounding this quote last year on this day something strange has happened. I’ve received some very interesting, dare I say flattering and humbling feedback from multitudes of guests and readers of the blog. (more…)
